her upcoming Medical College Admission Test, sprang into action as soon as she saw the man collapse. Taking one look at the fallen patron, she immediately dialed 911 on her cell phone.
The rest of the staff completed setting up for the campers' arrival. Within minutes of the ambulance leaving, the campers appeared. The planned activities took place without a hitch and the Joy Camp youngsters never knew what had just taken place.
Thanks to the quick first aid of Annie Abbate, the helpfulness of Russell Library staff and patrons, and the professionalism of our first responders, the man is recovering nicely.

Since Annie had emergency medical training, a librarian who had rushed to the scene, took her phone to talk to 911 as Annie assisted the man. She gave rescue breaths when his breathing became labored. When Annie could not feel a pulse, she began CPR. Another nearby patron left his seat and offered words of encouragement to the stricken man. Within minutes, first responders arrived and began their work. They praised Annie highly for what she had done and took the man to Middlesex Hospital.
The group was walking over from the South Green and due to arrive within minutes.
Two other librarians prepared to redirect the campers who were making their way to the Library. They wanted to avoid upsetting the campers with the sight of emergency vehicles, EMT's, or the stricken man being wheeled out of the building. One librarian went outside and established a route to redirect the campers along the other side of the street, crossing to the Library driveway to enter through the outer door of the Activity Room. This librarian remained out in the heat until he was sure that the campers would not walk into sight of the scary event taking place nearby.
As the event unfolded, children's librarians were busily setting up the Activity Room for a large group of children, teachers, and aides from Joy Camp of Shiloh Christian Church. Wedge Shoes Jimmy Choo
The children's librarians learned that a man had collapsed and his two children had been directed to the Children's Room. The man's children were understandably upset. One librarian took over the information desk so another could focus on the children. A third librarian settled the patrons in the Children's Room who had become unnerved by the news. The steadiness of the staff settled the environment and calmed the children.

A man stopped suddenly and fell to the floor, hitting his head on a table on the way down. The previously calm and quiet Main Reading Room at Russell Library became "action central" as another patron ran to the Information Desk and a librarian called 911 for help.
Library staff found a snack for the two children and distracted them from the proceedings. They helped the children accept all of the questions that Annie needed to ask their mother (who had come in to check on them) in regards to their dad.
Annie took the MCAT test on Saturday and will learn in a few weeks Giuseppe Zanotti Flats how she did. Beyond saving a life, she convinced our staff to begin taking first aid training to use in an emergency.
